We have seen many car changes in the automotive industry whether be it in terms of technology , featuers or components . And today in this article we are going to talk about one such important feature that is now found in Almost every car . and that is the Inter cooler . I know that this is something that you may be aware of it already but if you don’t not to worry .

As the name Suggests – Intercooler is a component which helps to keep our engines cool by reducing the temperature of the inlet fuel . And Inter cooler is mostly present in turbo engine as , in those engines , you get more power while increasing the power of the car engine rises the temperature up to 130 degree . As per some experts the reason for the same is because of less oxygen , as Hot air is less dense compared to cold air . less dense air means, there will be less content of Oxygen in it resulting that the hot air carries fewer Oxygen molecules. The Oxygen molecules in the air results in burning the fuel inside the cylinder of the engine.

Turbo chargers are efficient and good as they generate more power over the Rpm by compressing the fresh air at the same time pulling in more air in the cylinder . During this process the temperature rises where the intercooler is useful which  doesn’t let the temperature of that fresh air get high. Further if there is a higher combustion of engine , it pollutes the atmosphere and this is not only the reason for stopping the combustion but also it is illegal in worldwide even in India . And this is mostly for 10 years plus diesel engine cars in India .

Intercoolers are of 2 different kinds – Air to Air Intercooler ,Air-to-Water Intercooler-

The Air-to-Air Intercooler consists of a metallic component with tubes all over it. These tubes help the flow of the air through the Intercooler. The hot air enters the Intercooler from the outlet of the turbocharger and flows through these tubes. The atmospheric air cools these tubes from the outside and the hot air inside the Intercooler gets cooled. the outlet of the Intercooler leads the cooled air directly into the intake manifold of the engine While Air to Water Intercooler is a bit complicated than the Air-to-Air Intercooler because this involves the introduction of a coolant, pump and reservoir. An entire hydraulic system needs to be integrated into the engine along with an additional heat exchanger placed at the front of the engine. The actual Intercooler is placed inside the intake manifold or anywhere closer to the engine.
