Yes, u have read it right the well-known Japanese manufacturer Toyota has decided to shift towards diesel hybrid engines ensuring cleaner or zero emissions from its upcoming products. The race the cleaner emissions has compelled the manufacturer to adapt new technologies with stricter standards especially towards the diesel powertrain.
Well, it is not new for Toyota to go hybrid, 2 years back Toyota had already introduced a petrol Camry hybrid. However as per experts this new diesel engine hybrid will be based on 2.4 liter 2 GD FTV & 2.8 Liter 1 GD FTV which are being used in Innova, Fortuner, Hilux & HiAce.
Benefits of doing so is 2 ways, for company, it will help in reducing excise duty thereby reducing their cost of production & for customers the cars will be available at lesser costs compared to current prevailing price. The electric motors will not help in reducing emissions but also in economy.
Something u must consider about the existing petrol hybrid –
Double power – two engines i.e., petrol and electric work together to deliver smooth power & responsive torque .as and when needed.
Intelligent power –
The silence & sheer tranquility –
EV mode provides an ultra-smooth ride & in fact Is a very calm place to be.
Well coming back to diesel hybrid, although this technology is new and is not cost effective but Toyota relies on them very heavily so in our opinion it may be a good start since Toyota’s truck division is already using this type of technology
In India this type of technology is expected to arrive first in Fortuner which may make a debut with the next generation Fortuner. However, Toyota hybrid GD project will be revealed in quarter 2 of 2022.
