With the new developments in the automobiles and the technologies , various new features have been started to be added up in upcoming cars like the new autonomous feature such as ADAS -Advanced Driver Assistance System that is being adapted by various automobiles , like the Mahindra XUV 700 and MG Astor . Although this feature exist in some of the high tech premium cars. But all these features can be added only if the cars are fully autonomous or else semi autonomous . So today in these article we are going to know about the same and how does it work .
What is autonomous feature car ?
autonomous feature in the car , as the name suggests the car has features that can enable them to automatically drives the passengers to the destination . Without involvement of human but the society of autonomous car engineer divides the the autonomous cars under 6 different levels on the basis of human involvement and auto sensing of cars .
Different Autonomus levels
Autonomous level 0 – This level requires human intervention, as it lacks autonomy. In simple words you can say these are the standard Manual or Auto transmission cars with latest car equipment. With the standard fuel engine options ie petrol , diesel or flex fuel
Autonomous level 1 – In these level too, there is a need of human action for performing most of the actions . But the Autonomous level 1 features include only those which are for driver assistance such as cruise control or adaptive cruise control . The MG Gloster currently offers autonomous level 1 driving experience, requiring human intervention .
Autonomous level 2 – This level introduces advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane keep assist, allowing the vehicle to automatically accelerate or decelerate under certain conditions. To prioritize driver safety, engineers design these systems to empower… . Not replace, human control. The latest cars empower drivers with advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane keep assist. These systems can automatically accelerate or decelerate under certain conditions, but prioritize driver control. Drivers can take over manually at any time, especially during emergencies.
Autonomous level 3 – This level offers drivers increased flexibility because the car handles most of the driving tasks.. Because this technology is new, we still require manual override..
Level 3 vehicles have “environmental detection” capabilities and can make informed decisions for themselves .Such as accelerating past a slow-moving vehicle. 2019 Audi A8L arrives in commercial dealerships this Fall. It features Traffic Jam Pilot, which combines a lidar scanner with advanced sensor fusion and processing power .
Autonomous level 4 – This level is the highest in autonomous cars and can operate on its own and you do not require a manual override in most situations.
The features of the level 4 are almost similar . But you get a radar sensors in most of the level 4 cars for performing the autonomous functions.
Fully Autonomous car – Well here the car is controllable and manged fully by the car with zero intervention of humans. This kind of car is still a concept cause to bring this concept in real production , there are constant developments taking place in technology and architectures and more .But yes we may be able to see the same .
Can we rely ?
Well personally speaking to a certain extent , yes this cars are safe but you can never totally rely on a technology . If the situation is not be understood by the car .Manual override is a good thing . And the rules , regulations and the legislations also will matter .
